Patrick McGuire

Patrick McGuire, vineyard manager and vintner, was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and grew up in Pennsylvania and Michigan. He was a swimmer at Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a master’s degree in public policy. Patrick began his professional career at the South Bend, Indiana, Chamber of Commerce but later relocated to serve as the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Woodland, California. In 1994, he joined the California Department of Labor and Workforce Development and continued to work for the State of California until he ‘retired’ in 2015. He then served on staff for the California Redistricting Coming for two years until he ‘retired’ again in 2019. Patrick decided to focus more on the wine business that he thought would be a fun adventure in retirement. He now serves as the “labor” side of the team, operating the large and small equipment necessary for the winery’s viticultural and winemaking processes, like our tractors, forklifts, and filters. Most importantly, Patrick loves showing visitors around the property and hosting tastings for old and new friends.

Angela McGuire

Angela McGuire, so-called winemaker, was born and raised in northeastern Ohio. She was an art major at Kent State university, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in art education… and met Patrick. In 1990, after a brief career in the classroom, she gave birth to Cassidy, their daughter with Down syndrome. Cassidy’s arrival shifted Angela’s professional focus for good! After spending several years as a ‘stay at home’ mom to Cassidy and Robert, the big ‘little brother,’ Angela began her longstanding career at WestEd. She also holds a master’s degree in education from California State University, Sacramento. She uses her expertise to provide training and technical assistance to professionals, agencies, and departments that provide services to children with disabilities and their families. In 2022, she earned a Winemaking Certificate from the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology. At Sloughhouse Vineyard, Angela conducts wine analyses, assists in the fermentation process, hosts tastings, and prepares great meals for their small crew of friends that loyally turn up to assist them through harvest, crush, and bottling. Occasionally she’ll even lend a hand to Patrick with operations and labor. Notice you haven’t read the word ‘retirement’ in this bio. Angela may remove “so-called” from her title once she has a few vintages under her belt.

Cassidy McGuire

Cassidy McGuire, our tyrant princess, almost never works in the winery but serves as inspiration for our Unconditional Wines label and represents our aspirations for the winery.
As Sloughhouse Vineyard grows, we hope to partner with a local supported employment agency to provide training and employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Rob McGuire

Robert McGuire, our right-hand man big ‘little brother’, pitches in when and where he can— crushing, pressing, bottling, and recruiting young, energetic friends to help do the heavy lifting. Who knows, maybe we have a future vintner on our hands?

Work Crew: Nigel, Gordon, Davide, Michael, Nicole, Sandra, Lourdes, Maura, Jessica… We are fortunate to have many friends and family that have taken an interest and shown up to help when we need them.

ThirdRail: They aren’t just a printing service or a design firm. They are the amazing team, full of heart, that helped us find our brand identities. And they design and print our labels. We just love them and wanted to acknowledge their work here.  www.3rdrailpower.com
