Happy Mother's Day!

Mary BardonMy mother hasn't been on this earth for Mother's Day since 1981... and yet I feel her presence every day. Not because we have created a wine that channels her energy (Mariuccia... read more about it here), but because that is the power of motherhood. A mother leaves her imprint forever. You think of her when you eat something she loved (charred steak) or hear music you both loved (The Bee Gees) or are doing something you liked to do together (shopping and shopping and shopping...). Others see and hear her in you, whether you can or not. If others see my mother in me, I hope it's because I inherited her classic but cool style. I'm afraid it may be because I inherited her Roman nose and Italian hips! But that's OK, too.

Aunt Angie at the ColosseumSome of us are lucky enough to have acquired bonus mothers along the way. My Aunt Angie expanded her embrace to make sure that my sister and our children always felt a motherly (and grandmotherly) force in our worlds after her own sister had 'gone on.' And I appreciate that beyond measure. Hopefully, someday she'll get a wine of her own... but she likes Chardonnay, so that may be tricky.

Anyway, remember your mothers today! And if you are a mother, have a lovely Mother's Day!
